Crypto information web sites Etherscan, CoinGecko, DeFi Pulse and others reported incidents of a malicious pop-up prompting customers to attach their MetaMask wallets.
The phishing assault seems to return from a website displaying the Bored Ape Yacht Membership emblem. As of press time, the positioning tied to the area gave the impression to be taken down. Based on a WHOIS lookup, the area was registered immediately round 3 p.m. ET.
“We’re investigating the foundation reason behind this assault to repair it as quickly as potential,” CoinGecko founder Bobby Ong informed CoinDesk in a Telegram message.
“The state of affairs is probably brought on by a malicious advert script by Coinzilla, a crypto advert community – now we have disabled it now,” stated Ong. “We’re monitoring the state of affairs additional.”
In a tweet, Etherscan urged customers to “not affirm any transactions” that popped up on its web site.
